e been performed for dating of fossil corals (Komura and Sakanoue, 1967; Bloom etal., 1974; Ku et al., 1974; and see the references therein). The 230Th method has a potential to estimate the absolute age back to about 300000 years. This method is one of the most reliable methods for a sample older than a few ten thousand years, since the half-life of 14C limits the applicable age back to about 40000 years. In order to determine 230Th age, activity ratios of 230Th/234U and 234U/238U must be measured. Alpha spectrometry has usually been performed to measure these isotopes. On the other hand, measurement of 230Th can be made indirectly by its daughter nuclide 222Rn by assuming radioactive equilibrium between 230Th and 226Ra (222Rn) (Nydal, 1975). If this assumption is acceptable, the 230Th can also be measured by 214Pb, 214Bi and 210Pb, the amount of which can be determined by y-spectrometry. Furthermore, 238U concentration can be determined by measuring low energy r-rays from its daughter nuclide 234Th. In this report, the non-destructive 226Ra/238U method is proposed for the dating of fossil corals by -spectrometry using a germanium detector Ge (Li) and a low energy photon spectrometer (LEPS). The non-destructive dating method has advantages over the conventional ones in that the elaborate and timeconsuming chemical procedures are unnecessary and no change in the chemical state occurs in the sample analyzed, hence, the same sample can be used for further investigation after the non-destructive measurement.

ten distinct bands with molecular weights ranging from 19, 000 to 330, 000. When the thyroglobulin preparation was previously dialyzed against distilled water for 3 days at 4°C, the bands with large molecular weights disappeared, leaving only several small-sized components. These submolecular protein components, designated as Sub. I, Sub. II, Sub. III, and Sub. IV, were isolated by gel filtration on a Sephadex G-200 column in 0.1% SDS-0.04M Tris acetate buffer (pH 7.4) at 40°C, and the preparations were confirmed by sedimentation equilibrium analysis to be nearly homogenous in size. The weight average molecular weights determined by the sedimentation equilibrium method were 17, 500, 37, 400, 50, 300, and 70, 800 for Sub. I, Sub. II, Sub. III, and Sub. IV, respectively. Similar values were obtained by other methods, gel filtration and SDS-gel electrophoresis. Thus, the relative size of these components was very close to 1:2:3:4. The contents of amino acids and carbohydrates of these components were very similar to each other and also to entire thyroglobulin. The contents of iodoamino acids were also not greatly different between them, except that thyroxine and triiodothyronine seemed to be significantly high in the smallest protein, Sub. I. Immunochemical study also revealed a strong resemblance between each of them and thyroglobulin. Based on these results, together with other works, the structure and function of thyroglobulin are discussed.

相互関連性を, 媒介として吸収され,地上部へと移動することを考慮した場合, 地上部-地下部の相互関連性と, 地下部の生理活性を定量化した上で, 個体の生育を論じる必要性が生じてくる。そこで, 筆者らは, 上記の考え方に基づいて, 個体の相対生長率(RPGR)を, 根の生理活性の程度(URA)と, 乾物の分配率(RWR), それに, 根の生理活性の強さに対する個体の生長率の程度(RAR)という, 3つの要素の積として表示する可能性を示唆した。結果の概要は以下の通りである。1. 地下部の生理活性(根のα-ナフチルアミン酸化力)や地上部一地下部の相互連関性を定量化した形での個体の生長解析法を検討すると, 以下の関係式が成立する。[numerical formula] (RPGR)=(URA)×(RWR)×(RAR) (ここで, Pwは個体乾重, Rwは地下部乾重, Root Activityは単位時間当のα-NA酸化量を示す。)従って, 個体の相対生長率は, 上記の3つの要素の積として示され, 作物群内での個体の生長を, 地下部の生理活性と, 地上部-地下部の相互関係から検討できることが示された。2. (個体の全α-NA酸化量/hr)/(根乾重)を, Unit Root Activity (URAと略記)と呼ぶ。URAの培地養分レベル間での差異はほとんど認められなかったが, 栽植密度間での差異は顕著であった。3. 個体全乾重に対する地下部乾重の割合を, Root Weight Ratioといい, RWRで表示すると, これは生産された乾物の分配率を示すことになる。RWRの栽植密度間差異は, 高NO3-N培地(50 ppm)では, 認められなかったが, 低NO3-N培地(10 ppm)では, 認められ, 培地養分濃度が低下すると, いずれの栽植密度においても, RWRは増加を示した。4. 根の生理活性の強さ(α-NA酸化量の程度)に対する, 個体の乾物増加率の比を, Root Assimilation Rate (RAR)と呼ぶ。RARは, 栽植密度が小さいほど大となる傾向を示し, 生育が進むにつれ, 栽植密度間で, RAR値は, 大きくなる傾向を示した。5. 個体の乾物増加率は,(1/(Pw))・(d (Pw)/dt)で示され, RPGRは生育が進むにつれ, 減少する傾向が認められた。RPGRは, 栽植密度が小さいほど大となる傾向を示し, また, 養分濃度(培地NO3-Nレベル)を低下させると, RPGRの値も減少する傾向を示した。6. 草型の違いによる, 競合機構の違いを, Root Growth Analysisの方法で検討してみると, 低濃度培地で, A sp. (Weeping type)のRWRが, B sp. (Erect type)より大きい傾向が認められたが, 他の要素に関しては, 草型による顕著な差は, 認められなかった。

both isothermally and non-isothermally (derivatographically) in the solid phase: trans-[Co(A)2(phbgH)2]X3·n2O, where A denotes volatile ligands such as NH3, CH3NH2 or C5H5N; phbgH denotes 1-phenylbiguanide, X chloride or bromide ion; and n is 2 or 3. From the electronic, IR and far-IR spectra and magnetic susceptibilities of these complexes before and after heating, the products obtained by evolving volatile ligands were found to be uniform bivalent cobalt complexes without rupture of the bonds of phbgH to cobalt in spite of the reduction of central cobalt(III) ion, except for the complexes containing ammonia. The reaction seems to be caused by the electron transfer from the coordinated phbgH to cobalt, not from the outer-sphere anions.

tals. Measured acoustic fluxes are produced by the acoustoelectric domains. In order to measure the attenuation constant, an ultrasonic injection method is applied. A sample is divided into two parts; one part is used as a generation region of the acoustic flux [region (1)] and the other part is used as a propagation region of the injected flux [region (2)]. The acoustic attenuations of various frequencies are measured at region (2). The lattice attenuation is greatly affected by the rise time of an applied pulse in region (1). It is clear that acoustic flux in the acoustic domain which originates from the amplification of the pure thermally excited acoustic flux attenuates as f2 and is in accordance with the Akhieser loss. On the other hand, a shock-excited acoustic flux attenuates as f ∼1.5.
