概要: 金沢大学学術メディア創成センター<br />Considering that one-patch particles rotate three-dimensionally and translate on a two-dimensional flat plane, I performed isothermal–isochoric Monte Carlo simulations to study how two-dimensional self-assemblies formed by spherical patchy particles depending on the interaction length and patch area. As the interaction potential between one-patch particles, the Kern–Frenkel (KF) potential is used in the simulations. With increasing patch area, the shape of the most numerous clusters changes from dimers to island-like clusters with a square lattice via triangular trimers, square tetramers, and chain-like clusters when the interaction length is as long as the particle radius. With a longer interaction length, other shapes of polygonal clusters such as another type of square tetramers, two types of pentagonal pentamers, hexagonal hexamers, and hexagonal heptamers also form.<br />Embargo Period 12 months 続きを見る

概要: 金沢大学総合メディア基盤センター<br />We carry out a phase field simulation to study the formation of a comb–like step pattern induced b y a straight adatom source advancing in front of a step. The asymmetry of the suface diffusion field induced by the adatom source causes step wandering and small protrusions are formed. The step pattern is changed by the velocity of the adatom soruce, Vp. When Vp is larger than a critical value Vpc, the step cannot follow the adatom source. A seaweed-like pattern is formed with small ϵ4 and a dendritic pattern is formed with large ϵ4, where ϵ4 represents the strength of the anisotropy of step stiffness. When Vp < Vpc, the protrusions follow the adatom source: the comb-like pattern with straight finger-like protrusions, which is induced by step wandering triggered by noise, is formed. For a small Vp, the period of protrusions depends on the strength of noise, but the dependence of the period on the noise strength is week when Vp is near Vpc. The relation between the period and Vp approaches to that between the width of a channel and the velocity of a needle-like step in the free growth in a channel.<br />Embargo Period 12 months 続きを見る

概要: 金沢大学総合メディア基盤センター<br />Covering nanoparticles with DNA strands is one of the useful methods of controlling the interactio n between particles because DNA strands can be easily designed according to our specifications. Obtaining an idea from the two-dimensional structures formed by the nanoparticles covered with DNA strands, which we call DNA nanoparticles, we carry out Brownian dynamics simulations and study the formation of two-dimensional structures in a binary system. We assume that the different types of particles attract each other with Morse potential, which is minimum when their distance is σ'. When the types of particles are the same and their distance is smaller than σ, the particles are repulsive. The mixture of both square and triangular lattices is formed when σ'/σ = 1. With decreasing σ'/σ, a square lattice, a honeycomb lattice, and string-shaped clusters are formed. The coexistence of both square and triangular lattices with large σ'/σ and the formation of stringlike clusters with small σ'/σ occur because we neglect the attraction between the same types of particles and use a short-range attraction between different types of particles.<br />Embargo Period 12 months 続きを見る

概要: 金沢大学総合メディア基盤センター<br />We study the self-assembly of two-dimensional patchy colloidal dumbbells, which are composed of at tractive and repulsive circles. The shape of a colloidal dumbbell is characterized by the ratio of the diameters of the two circles forming it, q, and the dimensionless distance between the centers of mass of the two circles, l. We carry out Monte Carlo simulations and show that various self-assembled structures, micelles, elongated micelles, straight string, a meshlike structure, and large clusters with voids, are formed by changing the combination of q and l. q represents the steric effect of the repulsive part of colloidal dumbbells. l represents the anisotropy of the particle shape and increasing the periphery of attractive part. From our simulations, we find that the shapes of self-assembled structures are more sensitive to q than to l. 続きを見る

In particular, keeping the geometry of Czochralski method in mind, we study a correction for the heat balance equation at the interface between the two phases. 概要: 金沢大学総合メディア基盤センター<br />Assuming that the interaction between particles is given by the Kern–Frenkel potential, Monte Carl o simulations are performed to study the clusters and structures formed by one-patch particles in a thin space between two parallel walls. In isothermal–isochoric systems with a short interaction length, tetrahedral tetramers, octahedral hexamers, and pentagonal dipyramidal heptamers are created with increasing patch area. In isothermal–isobaric systems, the double layers of a triangular lattice, which is the (111) face of the face-centered cubic (fcc) lattice, form when the pressure is high. For a long interaction length, a different type of cluster, trigonal prismatic hexamers, is created. The structures in the double layers also changed as follows: a simple hexagonal lattice or square lattice, which is the (100) face of the fcc structure, is created in isothermal–isobaric systems. 続きを見る

概要: 金沢大学総合メディア基盤センター<br />We report on self-assemblies formed from spherical patchy particles interacting by a long-range at traction through a patch region in a two-dimensional system. We performed Monte Carlo simulations to find stable structures in a system with constant number of particles under constant temperature and constant pressure (NPT system), in which particles interact via the Kern–Frenkel potential. For long-range attractive potentials, we describe how these stable structures and their formation depend on the coverage of the patch. Under high pressure, when the coverage is small, triangular lattices are formed as reported in previous papers. From our simulations, we find when the pressure is low short chain-like structures, in which the distance between particles is long, and square clusters, which are not formed with a short-range attractive potential, are formed. When the coverage of the patch region is large, square clusters are formed since the interaction between particles is stronger than that for with small coverage. When the coverage ratio is larger than 0.5, the direction of the patch is perpendicular to the plane in which the particles are placed.<br />Embargo Period 12 months 続きを見る

概要: 金沢大学総合メディア基盤センター<br />We consider a vicinal face, where atoms and impurities impinge and evaporate to a vapor phase, to study how the surface diffusion and evaporation of impurities affect step bunching induced by impurities. When the lifetime of impurities on the vicinal face τimp is long and the surface diffusion of impurities is neglected, the step bunches induced by impurities are tight. When τimp decreases, the size of the step bunches, which means the number of steps in the bunches, decreases but the separation of single steps from bunches does not occur. When we take into account fast surface diffusion of impurities, the separation and collision between single steps and step bunches occur repeatedly.<br />Embargo Period 12 months 続きを見る
