概要: Shear mode grinding has recently much attention for the machining of brittle material such as a glass, ceramics and silicon. This study presents the effects of a newly developed ultra high speed grinder, which can achieve speeds five times greater than conventional grinders. Scratching modes on a surface of glass ground with a single point diamond were observed in detail by scanning tunnel microscopy. It was found from the experiments that the grinding mode depends exceedingly upon the circulating speed of the disc. The depth of cut observed with STM was about 20-30% smaller than calculated one. Grinding mode changes due to the shape of stylus tip and the cut of depth is influenced by crossing of the scratches. 続きを見る

概要: Ultra high speed grinding has been attracting attention as a processing method for improving the productivity and for quality on the surface of work. Present study focuses on grinding characteristics of an optical glass under high speed region. Grinding has been carried out using NC grinding machine with a magnetic bearing and also new type grinding wheels have been made in which metal beryllium is used as the core of wheel. Three kinds of wheel have been produced. Experiments are conducted under the conditions ranging from conventional grinding speed to 12000 m/min. It is found that grinding mode varies with increasing the revolution speed of wheel from conventional to ultra high speed one. Ductile mode appearance on the surface ground under the ultra high speed can be seen in which traverse grinding is made using a metal bond wheel. 続きを見る
