The licorice gels gradually released glycyrrhizic acid, the main medicinal ingredient of licorice, within 3 h. 概要: 金沢大学理工研究域生命理工学系<br />Grass and wood biomass (bagasse, cedar, and eucalyptus) was directly converted into flame-retardant thermoplastics by dissolution in an ionic liquid mixture and successive precipitation. During dissolution, the hydroxy groups of the biomass were substituted with a phosphonate-type ionic liquid. The three resulting biomass samples were formed into thin films by hot pressing at 140–160 °C. They also self-extinguished a fire by forming foamed char layers after contacting the fire in an alcohol lamp. In this method, more than 86% of the hydroxy groups were maintained after ionic liquid substitution because the single phosphonate-type ionic liquid acted as a plasticizer and flame retardant in the plant biomass. 概要: 金沢大学理工研究域生命理工学系<br />Three components of plant cell walls—cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin—were converted into flame- retardant thermoplastics by adducting only a single ionic liquid species via covalent bonds. They showed thermoplasticity and formed thin films by hot pressing. They also showed flame retardancy and self-extinguished the fire during burning. The properties of the samples depend on the cation species of ionic liquids adducted and thus are controllable. In the present study, more than 66% of the hydroxyl groups present on the polymers were maintained after derivatisation; they thus have the potential for further functionalisation for moulding, practical use and so on, in addition to flame retardancy and thermoplasticity.<br />Embargo Period 12 months<br />This paper has supplementary information. 続きを見る

概要: 金沢大学理工研究域生命理工学系<br />A polar carboxylate-type zwitterion with a small volume of water can dissolve cytochrome c without significant disruption, compared with the case of a popular polar carboxylate-type ionic liquid, 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate. A change in the Soret, Q, and 615 nm bands was not observed in the 80 wt-% polar zwitterion solution, whereas a shift in the Soret band, diminishing Q band, and appearance of the 615 nm band was found in the 80 wt-% polar ionic liquid solution. It suggests that concentrated polar ionic liquid solutions critically disrupt the structure of cytochrome c, and the polar zwitterion solution used in this study was better than a 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate solution in a high concentration range.<br />This paper has supplementary information. 続きを見る

概要: 金沢大学理工研究域生命理工学系<br />Lignin is a renewable resource, but it is also considered a waste or a very-low-value material. Her ein, we propose a lignin-derived compatibilizing agent as an alternative to the current compatibilizing agents. We prepared a polypropylene-based carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) with butylated lignin (C4 lignin). Upon the addition of C4 lignin, the dispersion of carbon fiber into the matrix, and the adhesion between the carbon fiber and the matrix were greatly improved. As a result, the tensile strength of the CFRP prepared with C4 lignin was greater than that of the CFRP without lignan lignin (37.1 compared to 40.2 MPa). This value is close to that of CFRPs prepared with maleic anhydride-modified polypropylene (40.9 MPa), an existing compatibilizing agent. 概要: 金沢大学理工研究域生命理工学系<br />As an alternative to petroleum-based compatibilizing agents, we developed lignin derivatives for co mpatibilizing agents of carbon fiber-reinforced plastics that have thermoplasticity. In this study, alkyl chains were introduced into alkali lignin at various ratios to optimize the compatibility of the lignin derivatives with both polypropylene and carbon fiber. The interfacial shear strength between the two materials was improved from 8.2 to 17.2 MPa by mixing with the optimized lignin derivative. 概要: 金沢大学理工研究域生命理工学系<br />We report an extremely biocompatible solvent for plant cell walls based on a polar liquid zwitterio n that dissolves cellulose, the most recalcitrant component of the plant cell walls. The polar liquid zwitterion does not affect the viability and activity of Escherichia coli, even at high concentrations. 概要: Polysaccharides and lignin, extracted from wheat bran with 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium methylphosphonate, were directly analysed with high-performance liquid chromatography with the aid of ionic liquid as an eluent (HPILC). Polysaccharides and lignin were clearly detected independently with the use of both a refractive index detector and UV detector. Polysaccharides with low molecular weights were obtained at 25 °C in 2 h with an extraction yield of only 4%. High molecular weight polysaccharides were extracted with a yield of 26% at 120 °C and selective extraction of high MW polysaccharides was succeeded with pretreatment at low temperature. Furthermore, a similar extraction was carried out for wood biomass. Characteristics of pine and oak were observed in the molecular weight distributions of the extracted polysaccharides and lignin. We also analysed the extracts from different parts of Prunus × yedoensis 'Somei-yoshino'. The average molecular weight of polysaccharides from its leaves was determined to be lower than that of its twigs. The present HPILC method has potential to rapidly and easily analyse molecular weight distributions of components of plants.
