なる2台のCCDカメラを用いて,降雪雪片の形状と落下運動を同時に撮影し,連続的に画像処理するシステムを開発した.雪片の落下姿勢とその変動および形状の解析を行うために,落下中の雪片を狭い視野にて数フィールド連続して撮影した.また,同一の雪片を広い視野にて連続約20フィールド観測して,雪片の落下軌跡を追跡することにより落下運動を解析した.落下運動の特徴量として平均角度変動量を定義し,形状特徴量と落下姿勢および落下運動の変化との関係を求めた結果,落下姿勢を表す慣性主軸の長軸が落下の方向に対してほぼ直角となり,空気抵抗を大きく受ける方向に落下する傾向が実験的に確認された.<br />Falling snowflakes were photographed simultaneously by two CCD cameras having different shutter speeds. The high speed camera was used for determining the shape and the low speed one to measure the motion. The shape of a snowflake and its falling motion are analyzed using continuously photographed image frames. The falling motion of a snowflake is calculated by tracing its position in subsequent frames. Relationships between shape and motion parameters were analyzed. Data indicate that tilt angle and falling direction were perpendicular to each other. It is considered that snowflakes encounter more resistance from air toward the upper direction during their fall.

We used a subtraction-based phase comparator (PC) in a phase-locked loop circuit instead of a commonly used multiplication-based PC, which has enhanced the detection bandwidth to 100 kHz. The quantitative analysis of the noise performance revealed that the internal noise from the developed detector is small enough to provide the theoretically limited noise performance in FM-AFM experiments in liquid. FM-AFM imaging of mica in liquid was performed with the developed detector, showing its stability and applicability to true atomic-resolution imaging in liquid. © 2009 American Institute of Physics.

Additionally, geographic information from the Global Positioning System (GPS) in field measurement survey is insufficient accuracy to identify individual tree crowns from satellite image. In this study, we propose the method of identifying individual tree crowns from satellite image using field measured data. First, in order to obtain the field measured data, we collected several information of individual trees in the test site. These are the tree stand locations, the distances between the tree trunk and outermost branch in eight directions, the diameter at breast height, and tree species. This survey was carried out on 20 September 2006. The area of this site is 160 meter by 80 meter, and there are about 60 canopy trees. Then, using the field measured data, we created the projected on-ground crown map which has the location and shape of individual trees. The each shape of tree crown is octagonal. Next, we detected the regions of tree crown from satellite image. In this study, we used an IKONOS panchromatic satellite image. The spatial resolution of analysis image is 1 meter per pixel. It can be recognized and identified an individual tree crown whose radius is more than 2 or 3 meter. Watershed algorithm was used for image segmentation, based on mathematical morphology considers gray-scale images to be sets of points in a three-dimensional space, the third dimension being the gray level. A gray scale landscape may be segmented according to the watersheds of the image. The segmented regions were classified to discriminate tree crown using the feature of spectral signature. Finally, we found out individual tree crowns related with field measured data from satellite image. Using a GCP by GPS equipment, we performed roughly registration of the satellite image to the projected onground crown map. For each tree crown in the map, we found out the same tree, which has the highest corresponding possibility to the tree crown in the map, among segmented regions obtained from satellite image. This tree-to-tree matching algorithm was performed using the fitness value of the location and octagonal shape of both tree crowns in image and map. We could obtain the optimum registration by affine transformation of highest fitness value without ground control points. Consequently, we could identify individual tree crowns from satellite image by imageto-map rectification. © 2007 IEEE.

uroprotective actions on PC12 cells. Although nitric oxide (NO)-activated signalings were proposed to be neuritogenic, the neuroprotective action of genipin remains to be elucidated. From the standpoint of NO activation, we tested a possible protective mechanism through the nitrosative Kelch-like ECH-associated protein (Keap1)/NF-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2)-antioxidant response element pathway in rat retinal ganglion cells (RGC-5 cells) in culture, and in vivo, against hydrogen peroxide and optic nerve injury (ONI), respectively, using a long-acting (1R)-isoPropyloxygenipin (IPRG001). IPRG001 induced NO generation and the expressions of antioxidative enzymes, such as heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), in RGC-5 cells. The protective action of IPRG001 depended on HO-1 and NO induction. We found that S-nitrosylation of Keap1 by IPRG001 may contribute to translocation of Nrf2 to the nucleus and triggered transcriptional activation of antioxidative enzymes. Furthermore, apoptotic cells were increased and 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal was accumulated in rat retina following ONI. Pre-treatment with IPRG001 almost completely suppressed apoptosis and accumulation of 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal in RGCs following ONI accompanied by HO-1 induction. These data demonstrate for the first time that IPRG001 exerts neuroprotective action in RGCs in vitro and in vivo, through the Nrf2/antioxidant response element pathway by S-nitrosylation against oxidative stress. © 2010 International Society for Neurochemistry.

関係を決定するには,ZとRを短い時間間隔で高精度に測定する必要がある。また,降雪粒子を雪片とアラレに分類するために降雪粒子の特徴量(形状,落下速度,密度等)も調べなければならない。 本研究では統合型降雪観測装置を構成し,様々な地上観測装置を一カ所に設置し,レーダとライダによる下層大気層の広範囲の降雪観測と実際の地上観測とを対応させた。<br />Radar measurements of precipitation are based on the relation between the radar reflectivity factor Z and precipitation rate R. In order to determine the Z-R relationship for snowfall, Z and R have to be measured independently with high accuracy within a short time intervals. It is also important to examine snow particle characteristic (shape, velocity, density, etc.) distinguish between snowflakes and graupels.In this research, the integrated measurement system for snowfall characteristic evaluation is presented. To monitor environmental characteristics, research was conducted by using several kinds of measuring systems and satellite imagery. Although remote sensing is a useful tool for obtaining data over large areas, there are problems in methodology and accuracy to overcome for the technique to be utilized successfully. Therefore, it is emphasized that in situ observation remains essential when applying remote sensing techniques. Spectral reflectance in the solar spectrum was measured synchronously and compared near ground and a high spatial resolution satellite.
