本研究は、ビザンツ皇帝の帯びる霊性的権威の実像を解明することを目標にしている。11-12世紀における帝都コンスタンティノープルをひとつの神聖空間として俯瞰した上で、そこで行動し、独特な政治文化が醸成されるのに貢献した皇帝以下のビザンツ人たちの行動形態を、極力、同時代の価値観、思考様式に基づいて解き明かしてゆくことを目指している。さらに、時の経過と共にそれらの現象がたどった変遷の過程も探求する。<br />This study is aimed to clarify … the spiritual authority of Byzantine emperors. By regarding Constantinople, the imperial capital, as a kind of a sacred space, it will elucidate Byzantines' behavior patterns incubating a peculiar political culture from the contemporaneous values and thought patterns.
