, near the city of Bam located southeastern part of Iran. There is the Bam fault just 2 km away from the city, which might be activated for the first time in several thousand years. The focal depth is estimated to be 8 to 10 km and the focal mechanism is reported to be dextral strike-slip with small vertical component. Strong motions were recorded in the city, about 14 km from the epicenter. The maximum peak ground acceleration was 1.0g in vertical, and 0.81g and 0.65g in horizontal components. The number of victims due to the earthquake exceeded 40,000 as of Feb. 26, 2004. A major cause of death could be crashed or hit by the debris while sleeping due to the collapse of housings. The earthquake also destroyed the historical mud brick complex, "Arg-e-Bam" which is more than 1,500 years old.

流史研究は、実体を裏付ける遺跡や遺物がほとんど具体的に研究されていない。本研究は、すでに分かっているような錯覚がある分野で、新たな具体的事実を遺跡の中から取り上げ、地域間の比較検討を軸に、実証的な研究成果を挙げることを目的とした。目に見える具体的な研究成果を挙げるため、欠けている研究項目の実体調査を現地で行った。アラビア半島ペルシア湾岸の地方拠点都市遺跡コールファッカンの砦と都市遺跡やコールカルバの町跡を発掘調査し、さらに各地の遺跡を踏査して資料採集を行った。同時使用された各地の産物の組み合わせと数量を明らかにし、居住者の従事した産業と生活の状態を推定しながら、生活の中で使用された海上貿易によって運ばれた具体的な物の数量や重量、用途、産地等を復元しつつある。これまでの発掘による出土品を現地で整理し、復元や統計的な処理を継続的に行い、報告書用の図と写真を作成した。併せて陶磁器の釉と素地の岩石学分析を日本で行った。国内においては関連資料の調査研究を行い、分析検討等を実施した。それらの総合的成果の刊行は数年後を予定しているが、研究年度内にその核となる論文、報告を刊行している。<br />Persian Gulf and Red sea was the important key trade route in the ancient Indian Ocean. Archaeological material from the site reflects the cultural relationship and the trade condition. To find new material and historical evidences, excavation at Khorfakkan old fort site and Khorkalba old town site has been carried out. At the same time, survey along the Indian Ocean has also carried out to collected many traded wares.The finds were sorted and analyzed for the reconstruction of the history and their society, by studying the assemblage, qualities, quantities, and the provenances of traded materials.
