呪術的思考や行為は、人間が危険や不確実性に直面した際に、顕現する傾向がある。ライフサイクルから見ると、生後間もない嬰児は、その生がまだ安定せず、病気や種々の危険にさらされやすい存在であるため、様々な禁忌や呪術的行為が付随する。本稿はフィールドワークにもとづき、現代台湾南部で見られる嬰児儀礼のうち、生後24 日目におこなわれる「剃胎毛」（「剃頭」）儀礼を報告する。本事例の分析が明らかにするのは、台湾儀礼におけるシンボリズムの特徴と、嬰児がまだ人間世界に十全に参入していない存在と … みなされ、生後おこなわれるいくつかの儀礼とともに、だんだんと人間世界の成員となってゆくという事実である。 Magical thinking and practices tend to manifest themselves, when people are faced with risks and uncertainty. In human lifecycle, there are many rituals for newborn children who do not have a stable life yet and are vulnerable to illness and dangers. Based on fieldwork, this paper reports one of the Taiwanese rituals for infants, called "Ti Tai Mao" or "Ti Tau", meaning "shaving lanugo", which is to be done on the 24th day after the baby's birth. Analysis of this ritual reveals several attributes of Taiwanese ritual symbolism and the fact that newborn children are not yet considered as fully human like adults, but that they are entering the human world through undergoing several rites of passage. 続きを見る
